What is your favorite flower to photograph your pup with? Honestly, I love all flowers, but I get super excited when lavender season rolls around. Lavender season around Sacramento usually starts near the end of May and rolls through June, with the length depending on how early we dip into our extra hot days. Sadly, this year we got some super hot days early so I had to make sure I got out to photograph in the lavender early.
There aren't a lot of lavender farms in the area that will let you photograph dogs in the lavender fields so I was super excited when I learned about Newcastle Lavender Farm. A mere 40 minutes from midtown in Newcastle (just a bit north of Folsom Lake), this working lavender farm was gorgeous and incredibly accomodating. For a small fee, I was able to take Arawn directly into the fields to photograph him. We had the farm all to ourselves and the best part? I got to take home a freshly cut bouquet of lavender.

Of course the day I selected for our session was over 100 degrees, but by the time evening rolled around the temperature was bearable (although my husband, who served as my assistant, might beg to differ).
Sadly the lavender blooms are all spent now (thank you 100+ degree weather), but I can't wait for them to return next spring!
